Resumen
Special considerations regarding the diagnosis and treatment planning in lingual orthodontics are presented in this article. The subject is discussed under sections covering general, periodontal, gingival, dental, and skeletal factors. While these are relevant to both labial and lingual techniques, it is essential to be aware of their impact on the lingual technique. Under the umbrella of these groups, special consideration is given to the influence of the restorative status with special reference to the presence of crowns and large restorations, dentoalveolar discrepancies, as well as the influence of vertical, anteroposterior, and transverse features of presenting malocclusions. The application of the lingual technique in cases requiring orthognathic surgery and preprosthetic orthodontics is also discussed.(AU)
